Through the Manifesto of Rapa S.

MANIFESTO
As the god created the human into the world, most people believe that the very first two peoples in this planet are Adam and Eve. These two humans got a different hair color, different body shape, different tone of voice but it’s all still based on the features that we called it as “human”. We can’t change the fact that everyone is not exactly the same, it got black so it needs to have white. We just perceive thing in a different perspective, it is the balance of nature to make thing got 2 sides. Such as the theory or the rule, there need to be something or someone to break it, to let us see the other side of thing. One of the obvious divergences is in “art” and “architecture”. Some movement exist the other movement follow and it is no limitation. The development of art and architecture were created by the idea of contrast and the idea of identical that is why the movements are related from one to another.
On the other hand, the  time keep going from the historical period to the 2011, not only the architecture that got the new movement during the period of time but also the socialization of the world changed at the same time. The more modern society that based on democracy, everyone can use their entitlement together with the technology that can support the communication of people easier and act like one of human’s figure. Architecture become more famous and successful in the wildly scale. In contrast, the world became more dangerous at the same time, the open view that came from the different media and the freedom that made everyone can show their thought to the socialization easily, it was in the same time that a lot of the bad critics began to impede the new artist or the new architect. As the beginner, the architect needs to learn from the past before inventing the new thing, and as the technology helps the society to be wildly criticize, the bad critics began to attack the nw group of architect and call the as an imitative architecture. Not only the architect society but, I believe, it is in every kind of duty, this situation can destroy the goal of the dreamer and pull down their dream. This topic was just very annoying me. In my point of view, it has 2 definitions of imitative or copying; 1.The group of people who try to do the same thing 2.The group of people who try to do contrast.  And there are no right or wrong because even if they can do almost exactly the same but it’s still be the new art, it’s not all same. And for architecture, from the historical period to the very present one can distinctly clear that people learn, people against, people invent. It’s not imitative or copy, all process was to learn from the past and use it as the experience to create the new thing. One may think that all those unkindness critics is not effect much to their society but actually it is very significant. As the architectural movement created by black and white, the gap from white to black is the critic that leads the architect to be black or white. If the group of bad critic began to be bigger and bigger, the new movement of architecture would not happen anymore and the architecture will turn to be such a dead language that has no development or any changed. Therefore, all the critic should realize about the changed of the classical architecture to the present one through the period time of time with the process of copying until being the unique one, this is to let the new movement begin follow the right step as the historical did. It would be the reason why the architecture is not invented the new movement for a long time.

The important role of the contradiction from black to white or from one movement to another of architecture is the way that architect can represent their thought against the idea of other architect without right or wrong. As an architect the confidence is necessary, the ego and criticism come together. Thus the relationship between one movement to another movement are not gradually changed like the other subject. Architecture world open up every imagination and wildly open the door for people to see the two sides of architecture and that’s the reason why I take the place in architectural school.

THE TIME OF BAROQUE

David-Renaissance
David-Baroque

From the last class the late Renaissance got David, there need to be another thing to let us see the other side of sculpture, and here there is a work of Bernini which is another David from his perspective. The more expressive and emotional of David was shown in this time. The new movement began, it was created to let others questioned that is Renaissance propose or style is clearly perfect? Baroque come to against the organized and simple architecture with the complex and ambiguous style. In my point of view, they are just try to let us see the more dynamic renaissance as we can recognize all the plan in Baroque style still got a big influence from Renaissance, but it’s just to break the rule to speak their own new language.

The New movement have come into every period of time, as the relationship between Renaissance and Baroque it was just the same with the relationship between Modernism and Post modernism. In this point, it clarify that no matter what the period is architecture still need their master to learn and to discover the new thing from the past.

Drove back to the God

Drove back to the time of Renaissance where the golden ratio of Le Corbusier really start, Renaissance period is the obviously example that show the development from the past and adapt it to suit with their time. And as the state above, it was the first movement in the historical time who invented the architectural with human proportion. It was derived from the time of Greek-Roman, the building were made and dedicated to gods, all the human proportion use only for the sacred space or the place to inform that human status is in an inferior to god. As it was the clear relationship between human and god, Renaissance start to pull some idea from the historical and created the “new” thing. The first architect that would be thought about is Donato Bramante and his St.Peter’s Basilica, this church shown the relationship from the past to Renaissance, it was dedicated to god even though it was the different god but it’s still base on the same idea. But at this point St.Peter basilica was given more attention to the sense of human proportion in relation to architecture. It was the first perfect dome in Renaissance with high decorative. As the principle of Renaissance which was the perfect proportion and symmetry, it was another famous Renaissance architecture who express Mannerist style into architecture. The used of human proportion start to extend into a domestic function, such as Laurentian library ad his greatest one, Campidoglio. It is the time
that architecture start to draw the line in relation to their context, at this point, Campidogilo represents the Capitoline hill as the center of Rome.  Even if the site was an asymmetrical but it has been calculated to achieve symmetrical by using human proportion to create the new perspective to the site. I think, Michelangelo clearly combine the idea of realisticand perspective together. He was played with what people perceive and adapt it to his massive and high decorative style. It was also shown in his art work such as his greatest David sculpture and Sistine Chapel where the architecture and painting are merged as one.

LEARN FROM 1 TO 10

IN MY POINT OF VIEW, I AM ONE OF THE STUDENT WHO IN LOVE WITH MATHEMATICS AND HATE THE HISTORY SUBJECT. I PREFER TO CALCULATE RATHER THAN READ FROM THE PAST. AND I REALLY DON'T WANT TO READ ANY TEXT BECAUSE I HAVEN'T UNDERSTOOD WHAT IS THE REAL HISTORY. BUT AFTER I CAME IN TO THE FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE, I START TO OPEN MY EYES AND MY EARS TO REALLY GET INTO THE HISTORY. THE HISTORY THAT LEARN FROM THE UNDERSTANDING NOT JUST REMEMBERING SOMETHING AND FORGET IT ALL AFTER THE EXAM. I THINK WE COULDN'T DESIGN A BUILDING OR EVEN A PRODUCT WITHOUT KNOWING THAT HOW CAN IT BECOME A PRODUCT? THE HISTORY GAVE ME HOW TO DESIGN HOW TO CREATED SOMETHING. AND SHOWS THAT HOW CAN THE THINGS ALL OVER THE WORLD BECAME WHAT IT IS AT THE MOMENT.

IN THE HISTORICAL TIME, THE PERIOD OF EGYPT AND ROMANESQUE THE ARCHITECTURE WAS REFER TO GOD AND THE BIGNESS OF THE THING. UNTIL THE TIME OF RENAISSANCE,   THEY WERE LEARN FROM THE PAST AND START TO GIVE THE ATTENTION MORE ON HUMAN AND NATURE. THEY START TO USE THE IDEA OF SYMMETRY AND PROPORTION . STARTING FROM CHANGING THE IRREGULAR PLAN INTO THE ORGANIZE ONE. BUT THE SIZE AND THE IDEA OF GOD STILL BE THE IMPORTANT COMPONENT IN THIS PERIOD. UNTIL THE TIME OF MODERNISM, THE TIME OF ABSTRACTION IN ARCHITECTURE. THEY THINK MORE ABOUT THE PROPORTION OF HUMAN WHICH IS DEVELOPED FROM THE RENAISSANCE. EVERYTHING CREATED FROM HUMAN SCALE RATHER THAN THE SENSE OF AESTHETIC. ANOTHER THING THAT BORROW FROM THE PAST IS THE SYMMETRICAL DESIGN. IN THIS PERIOD, THE ARCHITECTURE SHOWS UP IN THE GEOMETRY FROM WITH LESS COLOR AS POSSIBLE. IT IS THE BEGINNING OF MASS PRODUCT. THE FIRST GREATEST ARCHITECT THAT WE WOULD THUNK ABOUT FOR MODERNISM IS "LE CORBUSIER". HE SAID THAT " ARCHITECTURE IS THE MASTERLY, CORRECT AND MAGNIFICENT PLAY OF MASSES BROUGHT TOGETHER IN LIGHT". SO EVERY MASS START TO BE ABSTRACTED FROM THE PAST. LE CORBUSIER CREATED 5 POINT OF ARCHITECTURE AND DEVELOPED THE GOLDEN RATIO TO BE THE MAIN THEORY OF ARCHITECTURE IN THAT TIME. ANOTHER ARCHITECT WHOSE CLEARLY SUPPORTED MODERNISM IS MIES VAN DER ROHE. HE'S THE ONE WHO CREATED THE WORD "LESS IS MORE". WE CAN SEE FROM THE FIRST FURNITURE OF MODERNISM, "BARCELONA CHAIR" THAT IS REVEAL ALL THE STRUCTURE AND ITS FUNCTION. LESS MATERIAL AND CREATED FOR HUMAN PROPORTION ONLY.

MANY ARCHITECT TRY TO LEARN FROM MODERNISM IDEA AND EXPRESS IT UNTIL IT BECAME A NEW MOVEMENT CALLED "EXPRESSIONISM". THIS PERIOD WAS TRANSLATED MODERNISM, FROM GEOMETRY TO BE MORE EXPRESSIVE AND MORE SCIENTIFIC, WE'LL START TO SEE THE CURVE LINE AND THE NON PARALLEL LINE EXIST IN ARCHITECTURE AGAIN. THE AESTHETIC THINKING BECOME MORE IMPORTANT OR AS IMPORTANT AS HUMAN PROPORTION. THE BUILDING START TO LOOK MORE DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER. INVENTING THE NEW WAY OF CHOOSING MATERIAL UNTIL THE COLOR.THE EXAMPLE OF EXPRESSIONIST ARCHITECT WOULD GOES TO "LOIUS I LAHN". HE IS NOT DENY HISTORY BUT HE IS JUST REPEAT-RE DO IT. FOR EXAMPLE, THE YALE ART GALLERIES IS THE DEVELOPED VERSION OF THE BAUHAUS FROM MODERNISM. HE WAS LOOKING FOR THE ORDER AND LIGHT.

HOW EVER, THE ARCHITECTURE IS CREATED BY THE IMAGINARY OF PEOPLE AND IT NEVER STOP GOING. THE NEW MOVEMENT HAVE BEEN CREATED. THE TIME OF "POST MODERNISM". EVERYTHING IS LOOK SUPER EXPRESSIVE FORM. IT WAS ALL BREAK THE MODERNISM RULES. IT CAN BE WHAT IT IS AND IT CAN BE NOT WHAT IT IS IN THE SAME TIME. THE VERY FIRST ARCHITECT IN THIS MOVEMENT IS ROBERT VENTURI. HIS WORK IS EXTREMELY OPPOSITE TO EXPRESSIONISM OR EVEN MODERNISM. THE STRUCTURE HAS BEEN REVEAL, WE START TO NOT SEE THE TRANSPARENCY AND SYMMETRICAL ANYMORE. THE VERY SURPRISED BUILDING WOULD BE THE "DUCK" THAT IS FAR FROM THE IDEA OF ABSTRACTION. HIS DRAWING TRY TO SHOW THAT IT'S A DUCK HOUSE. THE FORM IS NOT FOLLOW FUNCTION ANYMORE. I THINK IT WOULD BE THE PERIOD THAT EVERYONE IS TOO BORED OF LESS OR THE MODERNISM IDEA. IT BECAME A NEXT GENERATION IN THE IDEA OF "LESS IS BORED".
FRANK GEHRY IS ANORTHER ARCHITECT WHO DID THE WORK THIS WAY. HIS GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM" IS REALLY SHOWS THAT. AS I HAVE MENTIONED ABOUT IT BEFORE, THE TECHNOLOGY AND THE NEW IDEA OF DESIGN AND STRUCTURE LEAD HIM TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST ARCHITECT IN THIS PERIOD.

UNTIL NOW, THE NEW ARCHITECTS WERE BORN IN EVERY MINUTE OF THE WORLD. EVERY BODY KEEP CREATED, KEEP CHANGED, KEEP DEVELOPED TO BE THE SUCCESS ONE. FOR EXAMPLE REM KOOLHAAS IS THE NEW GENERATION THAT PLAY WITH THE PAST. HE USE IT AS THE EXPERIENCE AND ALWAYS INVENT THE NEW THING. SO HIS WORK IS UNIQUE AND MORE ATTRACTIVE THAN ANYONE ELSE, IN MY IDEA.  ALL THE DEVELOPMENT CAN'T GO WITH OUT THE HISTORY. I THINK ME, AS ARCHITECT, CAN'T BE REM KOOLHAAS OR TADAO ANDO WITHOUT KNOWING WHO IS LE CORBUSIER. THE LESSON WE HAVE LEARNED IS THE BIGGEST INSPIRATION FOR ME TO WORK FOR IT. AND EVEN THE TIMES GO MORE THAN 100 YEARS, THE NEW GENERATION STILL HAVE TO LEARN HISTORY AND CREATED THE NEW STORY FOR THE VERY NEXT GENERATION'S HISTORY ALSO.

"JUNK SPACE"

In the afternoon, we still went on the marathon history class. I have seen the footage that we have learn in the first year, made by Allen Ginsberg. But this time I know more about the point of it. And the idea that he made to play with the wall in China is very interesting and it would help a lot for the new project. Interactive with the interior and exterior space by spinning the wall. Sometime people try to make something very difficult, high technology came with high budget. But for this artist, she chose the simple trchnology like the kid's toy to invent the new product.
Moving to the main point of this lecture, Junk Space and Rem Koolhass. Personally, he is my favourite architect. According to the last project, study from master house, I got Villa Dall Ava by Koolhass and I really enjoy working on it. His work is very attractive in the way that still kept the 5 point of architecture, he's conjent to it. In my point of view, he is not invented the new thing or copy the old architecture. But he's studying from it and use it as the very huge influence. Not only the Villa Dall Ava which can break every rules of modernism and make fun with it. But also CCTV building that is still being stand out from its context until now. He is not just designing but he's the creator that invent the new way of thinking and the new idea of choosing material or color. Another example is the IIT by Mies Vande Role. He can change it into his style and play with the picture of many architect. It's so funny that he can make it as he love Mies and hate Mies at the same times.
"Bigness can created Junk Space,
but Bigness is not always a JunkSpace"
Moreover, I have learn about the "Junk Space" the thing that is surrounding me but I have never recognize it. The fisrt Junkspace is "Leirttown" in 1957, the village that everyone thought it's cool and work for the inhavitant but for some architect, it was not. The idea of very repeatation and everything look the same. Junkspace is the place where people inside don't have to care about the rain or the hot climate outside. Some place we entered it but we can't make sure the orientation or ventilation. And it's all called Junk space. The clear example of this word would be the mobile phone floor at MBK Bangkok. It's no day and night. Further more, the place that I just knew that is call jusk space is Central world. After the political situatuon that happen in Bangkok, we all regret that Central world has broken. But why it can be normally use in some space, the answer is because it's JunkSpace. However,
JUNK SPACE IS NOT = ARCHITECTURE

For architecture, we can understand the context and every detail have reason to support the idea. That's why Rem Koolhass said "Architecture has died for so long ago"
However, Rem's work is not wildly accept by many critics but he still going on his idea and can prove that his architecture is "good". Even though his work is no reference or no proportion to human scale at all, he can still doing it in his way and became one of the greatest architect in the world until now.

EXPRESSIONISM

Monday 21st, March , this is our marathon class. But I can say that it was a really interested class and we are all felt alert until the last minute of it. Because all the lecture is related to the last project and also can help us to express the new idea for the upcoming project as well.
Start with Expressionism, we can see clearer about the development from the last class style, about the post-modernism, it’s a lot more different. They start to hide the structure which is the very opposite idea with modernism, no more transparency and no symmetrical. The first architect that I knew about this idea is one of the greatest architects, Frank Gahry. The very expressive form that he created is a lot and one of it is the “Fish” work. It was surprise me very much,

the very new idea about pop art. Another example that is wildly knew is “Guggenheim Museum”. It was the work that I knew his name and follow his work after that day. It’s break the rule and can really express the idea of Expressionism. It’s attractive by the surface and skin of the metal that conceal all the complex structure inside. He decreased the volume of the big mass by the divided it to be many pieces but actually all the mass are still the same. The interested point is he still kept the traditional plan but try to express the form and use the new technology to achieve this. After this work he still expressing his idea to LA, but it’s more floating and we can see the relationship between the building and it’s context. The building surrounded by the high rise building that looks frozen after this gigantic metal are located. And we were moving to the most favorite building of Frank Garry. It is the big transparency building blended with the context. It’s not just the context but he can keep the front view and the back view of the context. It works by the transparency of façade that function in different way in the day and at the night; at noon this façade will reflect the context on to the surface and also can see through another side of the faced to see the background and at night the light inside will be lighter than exterior space, then the façade will allow outside people to see inside the building. It’s very functional and very beautiful.

In my point of view, I can’t say that which one I like or which one I don’t like or I’d prefer this one than this one. Because I think from the first class to the present class, I can see the changing of architecture from the very beginning to the present and it’s just beautiful. I think, It’s about style and idea of that period of time but it’s all base on the sense of aesthetic and functionalism. For the last break of this morning class, we watched the film or the TV program about the very famous architects; Jean Nouve, Zaha hadi, Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano. From this film, I have listen to their idea and it’s very funny. Everyone is just a normal human but they can have a very successful in their life. And all of that still base on “tried” and “tired” of their life. And it gave me the inspiration to working on my project and my work, luckily for every architect, our work is can be created and finished for our part but the object or something that we created will last very long.

POST MODERNISM

"LESS IS BORED"

ONE OF THE ARCHITECTURE CHARMING IS THE WAY THAT PEOPLE CAN THINK DIFFERENT. ARCHITECT CAN ARGUE ABOUT THE HISTORICAL DESIGN AND INVENT SOMETHING NEWS.ROBERT CHARLES VENTURI IS ONE OF THE ARCHITECT THAT INVENTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN THE TIME OF " LESS IS MORE". HE SAID HE IS NOT BELIEVE IT. AND HIS WORK CAN PROVE HIS WORD.

THE BEGINNING OF HIS EVOLUTION IS HIS ESSAY, STATED ABOUT COMPLEXITY AND CONTRADICTION IN ARCHITECTURE. AND IT BECAME A VERY OPPOSITE IDEA WITH MODERNISM, IT'S POST-MODERNISM. VENTURI IS ONE OF THE EARLY POST-MODERN SO HE TRY TO DO THE OPPOSITE THING WITH THE IDEA OF LOUISE KHAN WHOSE WORK IS CAME FROM SYMMETRICAL AND HUMAN PROPORTION. WHAT VENTURI WAS TO MAKE A FACADE OF A HOUSE NOT SYMMETRICAL, FOR EXAMPLE, HIS VENTURI HOUSE, THE ROOF HS BEEN CUT TO BE APART FROM EACH OTHER, WINDOW FROM BOTH SIDE ARE NOT THE SAME TO EMPHASIS THE IDEA OF ASYMMETRY, THE WAY HE DECORATED AND ALSO THE COLOR WHICH WAS TRY TO BE NOT NATURAL. HE CHOSE THE BLUE COLOR. IT'S ALL JUST SO DIFFERENT FROM THE IDEA OF KAHN. THE VENTURI HOUSE OBVIOUSLY EXPOSE THE IDEA OF POST-MODERNISM CLEARLY AND TO BE CLEAR, HE MADE FUN WITH HIS DRAWING, " I AM A HOUSE"

ANOTHER MAJOR LEADER OF EARLY POST-MODERNISM SURELY MUST BE PETER EISENMANN. HE IS A VERY STRONG INFLUENCE OF THIS ERA. HE TRY TO CONVINCE EVERYONE INTO THIS IDEA. HIS FAMOUS ONE IS HOUSE VI 1972. I FOUND THAT THIS ONE IS VERY STRENGTH FROM ALL OF THE HISTORY I HAVE READ. IT'S NOT A HOUSE BUT SOME FUNCTION AS A HOUSE. IT'S NOT DERIVE FROM HUMAN SCALE AT ALL. FOR EXAMPLE, IT HAS AN UP SIDE DOWN STAIR CASE, SEPARATED HUSBAND AND WIFE'S BEDS IN THE SAME BEDROOM. THE IDEA ABOUT SYMMETRICAL CANT BE FOUND IN THIS ARCHITECTURE. ALL OF ELEVATION IS NOTHING THE SAME AND ALSO THE SECTIONS OF THIS HOUSE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. HIS INTENTION IS JUST TO DESCRIBE ONLY ARCHITECTURAL LANGUAGE IS STRONG. IF THE MODERNISM IS BASED ON BLACK AND WHITE, HE IS NOT A RED OR BLUE BUT HE WILL BLEND EVERYTHING OUT AND BECOME GREY. AND IT BECOME A DEFINITION OF POST-MODERNISM.

PETER EISENMANN

PLAY TIME

IN THIS CLASS, WE HAVE ANOTHER FILM CALL "PLAYTIME" BY JACZUES. EVENTHOUGH WE WATCH JUST SOME PART OF IT BUT IT MADE ME FEEL VERY INTERESTED WITH MANY MANY THING IN THE FILM. I DONT KNOW HOW OLD OF THIS MODERNISM FILM BUT ALL THE IDEA THE GAVE ME FROM THIS FILM IS ALL NEW AND PRETTY AMAZING. THE FILM START FROM THE THE AIRPORT THAT MADE OUT OF GLASS VERY TRANSPARENCY WITH THE METAL FRAMING. THE OVER ALL BUILDING LOOKS FUTURISTIC AND THE SURROUNDING OF THIS HIGH RISE BUILDING LOOK NOT SO DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER IN THAT MUCH. INSIDE THE AIRPORT THEY SHOWS THE NEW DESIGN OF CHAIR AND FURNITURE WHICH IS TRIED TO RESPOND THE REACTION OF HUMAN BEING BUT IT LOOKS PRETTY RIDICULOUS FOR ME BECAUSE EVERYTHING LOOKING UNCOMFORTABLE EVEN IF IT DESIGN IN A BEAUTIFUL APPEARANCE. I THINK IT'S THE PART  THAT THE FILM WANT TO MADE FUN WITH THE MODERNISM. THE STORY BEGIN WITH THE TOUR GROUP OF AMERICAN LADIES ARRIVING IN PARIS. IN THIS PART,OBVIOUSLY, WE CAN SEE EVERYONE LOOKS VERY SIMILAR; THE HAIR, DRESS, SHOES, BAG EVEN THE CHARACTER ALSO LOOK VERY ALIKE. AND THEN IT'S ABOUT MONSIEUR HULOT IN THE OFFICE BUILDING. IN THE OFFICE BUILDING, IT SHOWS THE  CUBE THAT ARE STAND VERY ORGANIZE AND EVERYONE GOT THEIR OWN CUBICAL. THIS OFFICE, I GUESS, IT'S THE OFFICE OF SHOPPING MALL SOMETHING. PEOPLE IN EACH CUBE LOOKS VERY SIMILAR AND IF WE LOOKING FROM THE TOP VIEW, THE ORGANIZATION OF THE CUBICAL MADE THIS SPACE LOOK LIKE THE MAZE. LOOK CLOSELY, EACH CUBE CAN ENTER IN ALMOST EVERY SIDE BY THE IRONIC SYSTEM OF THE DOOR. ANOTHER INTERESTING THING IS THEY MADE THE "GOLDEN SILENCE" BY MAKE THE MOST QUITE DOOR SLAM. I LIKE THIS IDEA VERY MUCH IT KIND OF SARCASTIC THE MODERNISM IN THE VERY CREATIVE IDEA.  ACTUALLY, THE DETAIL OF THIS FILM IS A LOT, FOR EXAMPLE, THE LIFT ; IF WE LOOK OUTSIDE IT IS LIKE A TOY THAT MOVE THROUGH EACH HOLE, THE PRODUCT IN THE SHOW ROOM THAT IS NOT THE ORDINARY THING. I THINK THIS FILM TRY TO MADE FUN WITH MODERNISM IN EVERY DETAIL IN A POSITIVE WAY AND IT SHOWS FROM EVERY SCENE THAT VERY UNIVERSAL AND CAN BE APPLY IN ALL WHOLD WORLD. IT WOULD BE A GOOD CHANCE IF STILL HAVE TIME TO WATCH THIS FILM UNTIL IT FINISH BECAUSE IT GAVE ME A LOT OF IDEA AND THE SENSE OF FUTURE WORLD THAT NEARLY COME INTO OUR LIFE.

MIES VAN DER ROHE

In the wolrd of architecture, it would be very strange if someone put a lot of flower full up on the marble wall or some architect wear a barbie dress with colorful pattern. Most of the the architect try to make everything clear and abstract with reasonable that is why we are so different with the pure artist. We all learn in the process of architecture with the quote of "Less is more"
I am one of the student whose always heard this quote and actually, it's the sentence that I often heard in my project'critics and I was wondering how this quote happen and why everyone love to use it?
In my history class today, we've learn about destijl in neoplasticism with his grid and color. Beside, we haved learn about Mies Van Der Rohe whose created
"Less is more".

His work is clearly describe "less is more" start from his furniture, "Barcelona chair". It is the chair that looks quite un comfortable. It's look simple and all the curve and line shows up very clear. In my point of view, it would be a very first simple furniture design in that time, it's like he try to make everything really into mass production. The chair with only fuction  no decorative use only 2 materials.

Mies Van Der Rohe created many amazing and successful architecure not only the bauhaus but it's a lot. For example, The house in america with only 3 panels cover by glass. Another thing that is really inpired me from Mies would be his presentation. He made a collage to describe his idea. And it's look very interesting and clearly describe his thought. Actually, i've never seen someone did it before, it's very graphical. I think he is not just less is more but in his "Less", he has already thought a thousand times about his work in every unit of decoration. Most people call him "God of details" and it's really show in his work. His collage can show all the main structure and detail of the house. One of the clearly example is the pattern of the marble wall in Barcelona pavilian. Each marble with a very nice cut. It's like he try to cut it and when he put it together it become like a butterfly wing. And this wall become an attractive one in this pavillian.

In conclusion, I am very glas that I knew the one whoe created this quote and he is inspired me a lot just only I listen to his story from power point. I think his idea and style are very clear and some day I will try to be attractive and amart like him, he created my goal now :)

Le Corbusier

After I was born, I saw my father sitting very still on his over size table with a very huge paper.
He always sit in that position with his smiling face.
He is an architect and he's my very first painting teacher.
He teach me a lot about art and persuade me to this architecture world.

The first architect he introduce me to is "Le Corbusier"
Honestly, I can say that I know nothing about him but he is the one that I always hear about.
As the time pass, I tried so hard to study about architecture to became one of the member in faculty of architecture. And I was gettine to know "him".

Finally, I became a student in this faculty as I want to be.
And here I am in the history class, feeling so excited.
In this class,we were drove back to the very early time of modernism and art and
"Le Corbusier".
He try to develop architecture in mass product.
Obviously, It shows in his style, his out fit; circle glasses, black and white suite.
The core of his thinking is
"MASS AND SURFACE TELLING EVERYTHING"
He said " Architecture is the masterly correct and magnificent play to masses brought together in light".

He try to conclude all of his idea to be shown in the next and next architect generation about "what the modern architecture is?". And it came up with the very simple 5 points that we use until now
1. The Support or pilotis
2. The flat roof or roof garden
3. The interior walls
4. The horizontal windows
5. The facade

                                                                               villa savoy

The very clear about the example of this idea is "Villla Savoy" in 1929-1931
Actually, I think we all know about this name and this architecture.
But how many peoples know about the idea of  this house.
1. Supports are spaced degulated and necessary to elevate the first floor of ground
2. The flat roof is meant to serve another domestic purpose, such as gardening or relaxation
3. Interior non load bearing walls are free for arrangement within open plan
4. Horizontal windows provide more even illumination than do verticle one
5. The non load bearing facade can be freely design.
In my point of view, even if it's all not true for all of his idea,
I feel very amazing with his thought and I think it effect a lot in that time.
He created the balance between the very historical time and the modernism. for example, he thought about the idea of human dimension in the very historical time and bring him to fit in his design.
And also his work after that shown the development in the modernism world.
For example Unite d’ Habitation is another interested one.
I think i can see the relationship between his drawing and this building.
He brought us back to the very simple line and primary color.
But it's surve the function of the habitant and clearly shown the idea of mass, surface and light.
After that time to 2011, his work is still very famous and became the very big part of architectural student. I think that what he has tried to do is very succesful and  I hope that the 5 idea of his theory would bring me to do the architectural design as good as him in someday.

                                                                                                                                 Unite d’ Habitation
